The Whites defeated Royals 34-27 at Campese to chalk up their second win from two starts in the John I. Dent Cup. Second grade romped home 40-0 , thirds 40-5 with colts thumped 43-12.
Royals had high expectations but after Billy Chalker and Anthony Bozzato scored tried they were down 17-3 by the break. With the down- hill run in the second half Queanbeyan could have run away with it. But Royals never gave in with the score always within a converted try until fullback James Marmont put it beyond doubt after running off a Tai Valeni bust.
Centre Chalker was solid with half Mitch Douch just superb. Five eighth Josh Whites is settling in nicely to the five eighth role while the forward pack dominates the set pieces and loves the open air running.
Captain Dan Penca added another dimension to the side after missing the first round. Even his partner was impressed. The Whites have a two week break before meeting Wests at Campese.
Scorers: Chalker two tries, Bozzato, Penca and Marmont one each; Douch 3 conversions and a penalty.
French the master
Second grade coach Sam French put on a master class performance at five eighth to lead his side to a 40-0 win which could have been 60-0.
Try sneak Cameron Stanley notched two as did the unstoppable Tony Tarlinton but the man of the match was Otto Gordon who featured his kicking skills. Another hooker took the three points in third grade. He had plenty around him in Zac Tarrant, old man Fifita and Luke Cochrane.
Colts had little going for them against a heavily talented Royals side. When the Brumbies development officer is the Royals coach you can understand why. But despite the 12-43 score line the Whites showed the potential to bounce back.
