Go Whites young man

The Whites head off to Jamison Enclosed Oval on Saturday facing the Lions who had a draw last week against Easts. One thing is for sure the Wests forward pack will put it to Queanbeyan. But Les is back for a run, Les Leulua’iali’ i-makin is correct, and we now have Caleb Malisauskas to add to the spelling nightmare. Caleb,in his debut game, takes over the injured wing spot of Petau Lefau –  the blond bombshell is a colt age player like Petau.

The only other issue with the side is whether Ryan Jones plays and OJ overcomes a minor leg injury. With Dan Penca and triple try-scorer Soakai Tai waiting in the wings there is no great worry.

The Lions are generally slow starters to the season and strong finishers, as they proved with their grand final appearance in 2017. Ben Coutts is back at prop after retiring for the fiftieth time and old Drew Southwell is back at inside centre.

Of interest is the selection of Danny Matthews is picked at fullback. Well he is in for a good time as he left the Whites so he could play five eighth!

Reserve grade have more than a solid side with the return of Zac Tarrant and Josh Townsend. Throw in Cameron Stanley, Soakai Tai and Lewis Bozzato and you have a tough side.

In the Colts pat Byrne proves his value by moving to inside centre while Puni Aupini returns to make a solid combination. Fred Kaihea will get some minutes at prop. Fred, after his first grade performance against Gungahlin, has been invited to the Wallaby under 20 camp next week. He joins Justin Sikimeti and Iasaih Latu on the trip north. Colts coach Dan Hawke will also pack his swimmers as he has been invited as an emerging coach. How proud is his dad?

Thirds and fourths have no sleep in with fourths at 9.45 and thirds at 11.05. Coach and organiser Luke Cochrane is doing a fantastic job getting the sides together and with good performances on the paddock. Talented Reuben House is back, great halfback Jeremy Taylor is back, and the oldest prop since Paddy Matthews is back, Taingi. It speaks of only a good day out.
