All three Queanbeyan sides were eliminated from the final series with fourths beaten by the Young Yabbies 20-26, thirds by Goulburn 19-29 and a heart breaking 27-28 loss by the colts after the siren to Gungahlin.
That leaves second grade in the grand final with first grade to face the Gungahlin, who beat Royals 24-3, in the preliminary final on Saturday.
Colts led 15-14 at the break and then went out to 27-14 before being chased down with the Eagles granted immunity and then countless penalties. Three Whites players found themselves in the bin with the first being carded after the first five minutes.
Gungahlin scored right on full time after a piggy back ride up the paddock and then as the siren sounded the conversion sailed over right from the side line. Heart breaking.
Flanker Lewis Bozzato, captain Levi Goodwin-Shaw and fullback Josh Wells were in the thick of it and it is likely all three will get game time in the next weeks.
Thirds gave the Dirty Reds plenty of start and then tried to run them down . At one stage they face a 5-29 deficit and managed to get to 19-29. Jack Edwards and Jack Chalker played themselves to a stand- still. It was a good side on paper but just did not deliver against the older and wiser Goulburn.
It was similar story in fourths with the Yabbies’ five eighth an old school player who kept the Whites on the back foot. Down 3-19, the Whites did stage a fight back with the wind behind their backs.
As winger Luke Cochrane got more involved the team fired. Fullback Michael Edwards also made plenty of ground. As usual the contribution by the Fifita family was first class.
