Doing the sums

Doing the sums

First grade sits seven point out of the four and the reserve grade sits just two points from a semi-final appearance. With three rounds remaining with games against University-Norths and Easts and then a bye you must do the sums.

Colts are comfortable in fourth spot and could come home third and fourths are second while thirds are sixth. Unfortunately, Easts have withdrawn from the colts competition meaning Dan Hawke’s side will miss a fortnight of football before the final series.

First grade standings are Gungahlin 50, Erindale 49, Royals 47, University-Norths 29, Queanbeyan 22 and Wests 19. Reserve grade has Gungahlin on 54, Erindale 46, Royals 40, Owls 24 and the Whites 22.

The games on Saturday at University are obviously critical with wins by the Whites essential for survival. The Owls last rounds include a bye and Wests. You can assume the Owls will win against Wests in reserve grade but whether Wests can do the Whites a favour in first grade is doubtful.

First grade is likely to have only one change with Nic Frost carrying an injury replaced by the most improved Michael Gordon. Gordon had an impact off the bench last week winning lineout ball and making ground with the ball.

The only Brumby who could make an appearance is half Matt Lucas. Lachlan McCaffery and Les Leulua’ iali’ i-makin are on short-term contracts in Japan while Tevita Kuridrani is in the Wallaby squad. The Owls have had good use of lock Blake Enever.
