03 Mar Injuries mar trial
Injuries to several layers marred the first trial of the season against a competitive Wests.
Wing-centre James Mafi, centre Fraser Smith and prop Liam Bilston were taken from the field and face some time in rehab. A few others like Lewis Bozzato and Carl Elliott were worse for the wear.
First grade won 19-17, second grade 30-19 and colts 27-10.
The colts ended their match in dominant fashion after a long- time working combinations. Five eighth Michael Rademaker had some nice touches with Brad Winchester the rock at inside. Brother Matt looks the goods in the pack with Kane Kilmister and Mika Eli providing the experience.
The seconds squad were pretty good considering there were more of lats year’s team drinking on the balcony, enjoying very early retirement, and the firsts squad more or less evened out with Wests. The elders, JR Morgan and James Marmont, showed their class with Marmont instrumental in the top trial.
First grade’s concern about locks is probably not a real issue with Argie Bargie taking one spot and the number of hand ups including Noa Nadruku, Becs Seeto and Michael Gordon.
There is new talent and the Whites have had to bring a number of players to ensure the club remains competitive.
It’s an easy gig to criticise the approach but it’s not so easy if you are not competing and you are sitting on the balcony.
