03 Mar Poidevin Effort
The Whites trial against Gordon was played at Goulburn’s Simon Poidevin Oval. None of the under 20’s were born and probably few know of the local legend’s determined and courageous performances as a flanker for Australia.
Poidevin would have been impressed with the colts as the 15 of them put it to Gordon who had 30 players to call upon.
Although beaten there was plenty to be happy about with a new crop of youngsters showing their grit.
While Gordon was rotating players the Whites just had to keep on keeping on and they never shirked the task. Led by the talented Ben Darmody, Adam Wise, Tony Fifita and the tough Tyron Sullivan the Sydney siders knew they had a game.
If you had to pick a player of the day then Lewis Bozzato gets the prize. He is an everywhere man and will be an integral part of the club for many years. Another Eddies’ graduate Thomas Carvolth also showed his worth.
One Colt Sam “Barty” Bartholomeusz was the Poidevin pick although he never ran on for the under 20’s. Fresh out of school he played in the first grade trial at prop for the whole period. Barty joins a number of fresh faces who have faced a baptism of fire in their first year out including Neori Nadruku and a long time ago Glenn Stumbles.
