The Whites can expect trouble from Uni-Norths on Saturday as they try to win back the Pat Matthews Cup won by the Owls last year 36-35. The students are coming off a win over Tuggeranong 31-28 while Queanbeyan were humiliated by Wests 30-10 in round 11.
Saturday’s game is crucial for the Whites who then face Tuggeranong, Gungahlin, Easts and Royals in their last four games before a bye and the final series.
The Pat Matthews Cup recognises the contribution of the prop who suffered a heart attack after a game in 2009 and died in the club’s change room. Pat played 154 first grade games and more than 600 games in total. Pat also toured with Uni-Norths to Golden Oldies tournaments. The Cup has been evenly shared with both sides winning it four times.
He is survived by his partner Pam Sassella who will present the jumpers and the cup on Saturday.
It is also Ladies Day with Mara Elliott working hard to make it another successful afternoon.
