Thirds and fourths had a day in the country with games against Young Yabbies on Saturday. Thirds won 46-7 and fourths 36-14 but a loss in the boat race was disappointing.
Thirds scored eight tries and fourths scored six with the pies shared amongst eleven players. Michael Edwards attempt to become the club’s greatest point scorer was not helped with only three conversions from eight shots. He did get a try though which meant he was not completely insufferable.
Talking about the insufferable what about hooker Matt Gibbons. Gibbons was second in-line for the boat race and it is fair to say my great grandmother could down a beer quicker than Gibbo. He thought he was at an afternoon tea party and sipped the side to a long last. His passport has been stamped and is no longer considered for selection in the boat crew.
It was old fashioned rugby with a good spirit between the clubs and a few beers and a feed at the Australian Hotel after the matches.
The Bowning Hotel also was set alight with the arrival of the Whites’ bus and choir. The local patrons enjoyed the entertainment and the cameras were out.
Tour leader Ian Darmody was informative as he knows every bit of dirt from Yass to Young. On the road trip was recently injured half back Tom Luic who had a day out on his crutches.
This week Qbn play Wests at Campese Oval and it is Ladies Day.
