17 Aug Whites become The Griffins
Queanbeyan is well represented in the resurrected ACT Griffins that will play curtain-raisers to National Rugby Championship games. The Griffins have traditionally been the ACT representative side up until the introduction of the NRC and the takeover by Tuggeranong.
Six players, the backs coach and manager will be wearing the Griffins’ colours on behalf of the Whites.
Club coach Adam Fahey has been appointed to assist former club coach Wayne Southwell and Easts’ coach John Ross prepare the team under the management of Bob Brady.
Prop Neori Nadruku, lock toby Wilson, No 8 OJ Noa, half Mitch Douch, centre Billy Chalker and winger Melani Tiatia have been selected on the back of their performance in the John I. Dent Cup.
Whites captain Dan Penca has finally earnt recognition and is included in the NRC squad along with prop Les Makin.
The Giffins play their first game against the Eagles B in Sydney on August 29 and their first home game against the Rams B at Erindale on September 5.
