The NSW Country Championship team, Illawarriors, were well beaten by the Whites 38-14 in the first grade and 14-5 in the Colts game.
Flanker Lewis Bozzato and fullback Mitch Douch each scored a double, prop Neori Nadruku and hooker Dan Penca one each. Penca was back in his old role and was rewarded with a rolling maul try. Much more of that and he will have to stay there.
Bozzato was damaging all day with his no-nonsense aggression and competitiveness at every breakdown. Douch really came into his own towards the back end of the game when the opposition was tiring. His support play and ability to make something out of nothing was featured.
Centre Keith Morgan even made good his own chip kick and motored 70 metres up the paddock for Bozzato to reap the reward. The forwards dominated until late in the game when the big men ran out of a bit of steam.
Congratulations go to substitute hooker Matt Taylor and replacement winger Isaiah Latu from the Colts who impressed at the higher level.
Colts half Nathan Exton put the Colts in a good position to lead at half time by 7-0. Exton was replaced to allow game time in the seconds with young Ben O’Halloran taking over. The side hardly touched the ball in the second half.
One opportunity arose with Fraser Smith working a move with winger Kyle Hanns for the second try converted by Aiden Agnew. The 14-5 win was hard work. A fair few penalties flow against the Whites which made possession hard to come by and added to the defence work load. Hanns was good as was the tireless work of prop Jason Wirangi.
